How to know which Decking material to choose?
When choosing which material to build your outdoor deck, there are many factors that come into play. It really is a matter of what you are looking to get out of your outdoor living space. We've broken the decision into what we consider the five most important factors when choosing the right material to install.
1. If you're looking for an inexpensive, long lasting, and low maintenance material, we would suggest using aluminum decking as it won't rot, warp, rust, or splinter. Aluminum material is very popular at the lake as well as near swimming pools.
2. If you're looking alright with it being a little more expensive, a natural wood decking material is always a beautiful option.
3. If you're looking for an alternative to the natural wood material, and something that is rot, insect, and moisture resistant we suggest using pressure treated lumber.
4. If you're not necessarily looking for a traditional wood material, we often times suggest building with composite decking which offers attractiveness and durability for very little maintenance. Composite decking is made using recycled plastic and blending it with wood fibers. These materials come in many different colors and can even be made to mimic the look of natural wood.
5. If you're wanting a durable material that will stand the test of time, a plastic building material might be right for you. Plastic building material won't crack or warp and is very easy to maintain.

How much would it cost to build a deck?
​There are many variables that go into determining the price of your future deck. Things such as the cost of a contractor, the design layout, the overall size, and the material used for building. The general rule of thumb for a professionally made wood deck is roughly $15 per square foot. More difficult designs as well as more expensive materials could be as much as $35 per square foot. Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Yes
Most all building projects require some sort of permit, decks, patios, and four seasons rooms included.
No need to worry! The building permit application process is very straight forward. Once all of the required information regarding your project has been submitted, the plan review process takes roughly 7 to 10 days to complete. Larger projects may take longer to complete the review process.
How long should it take to build a deck?
Like all projects, it depends on the size, soil, weather, complexity of the project and many other variables.
But generally speaking it will take anywhere from one to three weeks to complete a standard deck.
Can a deck be built in the winter?
Yes
As a matter of fact, it is considered the best time to build a deck. Of course, there may be more delays such as snow or ice effecting our ability to work. But, rest assured if you start building your deck or patio in the winter it will be completed in time for you to enjoy the sunny spring lake weather!
Should I go with wood or composite decking material?
Of course this is a personal preference, many people like wood decks because of the natural look and feel. But likewise, many of our customers prefer composite decks for all of its added benefits such as less maintenance and its array of colors that mimic the look of a wooden deck.
